From Steelwork to Roofs
Buckie has always been our base from day one – over 40 years ago, and is our home town; a good place to be central to trade in Aberdeen, Inverness and the north. It is now the hub of huge industries not dreamt of 40 years ago when the main occupation was fishing, farming and ship building.
Although these jobs served us well for many years, work was often in short supply and in 1962 when John and his wife Georgie married and set down for good in Buckie, John found good work in the electricity industry. He travelled throughout the UK, building towers of steel connecting power lines between England's major cities and power stations, before finally arriving at the nuclear power station at Dounreay, serving Scotland and the south.
John Duncan was now a very experienced steel man, which set him on a future path and took him home to his Buckie base
In 1973 John set out on a new venture, mainly erecting steel work for others.
The business expanded over the years, adding fabrication, roofing and complete building services to the repertoire.
Both sons, Mark and Murray joined the thriving business and quickly showed their enthusiasm and skills by developing a retail roof and wall cladding business as well as the now well known 'Planwell Roofing Supplies', established 25 years ago.
All members of our family are involved and my daughter Morag is involved with various activities as she and husband, Scott continue to be part of the group and manage new developments, which are overseen by John Duncan and Erika on the sales and admin sides.
My wife and I are pleased that we have kept our family at home in Buckie, where a good future is available by doing what we do best; providing excellent services and supplies.
